DTM Co-op

Students starting the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management program (starting in fall 2022 or later) must complete a required summer co-op term between first and second year. Practical and scientific study, combined with a required summer co-op work term (paid), provides students with a wide range of practical experiences, knowledge, and networking opportunities.

Students are required register for the COOP*1120 Introduction to Cooperative Education preparatory course in their first semester (in addition to the other DTM courses in the schedule of studies).

Throughout semester 1 and 2, students will work with the DTM Program Manager (Co-op Advisor) and University of Guelph’s Experiential Learning Hub (Co-op Coordinator) to seek out, interview for, and secure their co-op position. During their co-op work term, students are required to work full time for minimum 15 weeks following winter semester 2. The co-op work term must be an approved position in the field of turfgrass management. Prior to the end of semester 2, students must outline a series of personal learning goals to complete during their co-op work term.

Successful completion of the co-op is a requirement for graduation.

The Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management co-op program prepares students for a variety of career opportunities including golf course management, lawn care, sports field management, parks management, landscaping, sod production and related supply and service industry positions.

Please see the Co-op and Career Services website [1] for information on Co-op Work Term Report requirements.

International students should investigate obtaining a co-op work permit shortly after accpeting an offer of admission. Information about this can be found on the Co-op website [2]. Contact the International Student Advisors [3] with questions relating to permits.
