Course Selection Tips for 1st year B.Sc.(Agr.), B.B.R.M., B.Sc.(Env.), B.I.E.S.P., B.L.A. and D.T.M. students

Welcome new students! If you are a B.Sc.(Agr.), B.B.R.M., B.Sc.(Env.), B.I.E.S.P., B.L.A. or D.T.M. student, your course selection window will open on Friday, July 10th at 8:00am EDT. When your course selection window opens, you can register for courses for both the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 semesters.

To ensure a smooth course enrolment process, the University has implemented a queuing system in WebAdvisor [1] for days of high traffic to the Student Planning, Course Catalog sections. When you navigate to those sections of WebAdvisor during busy periods, you may be brought to a waiting area, and you'll be placed in a queue. An estimated wait time will be provided. Once it’s reached your place in the queue, you’ll be able to access them.

We recommend that you register for your courses as soon as possible. As course selection windows open and you begin selecting courses, you may find that some of the courses you have planned are full and you have the option to join the waitlist. If the section that you want fills up, it is better to enroll in another section that works for your schedule instead of joining a waitlist. If you join a waitlist, there is no guarantee that you will get into the course, even if it is a required course.

If you're next on the waitlist and a spot opens up, you'll be notified by email. No one can take that spot in the meantime. You will have until 11:59 p.m. the next day to register on WebAdvisor. Watch your email carefully if you're on a waitlist, especially if you are near the top! If you fail to register within the timeframe provided, you'll be dropped from the waitlist, and the seat will be offered to the next student on the list. See more information on our Course Selection Page under Changes to Course Enrolment as of Fall 2025 [2].

To view more sections on the Student Planning tool, you can navigate to the “Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop" page on WebAdvisor. [3] In the panel on the left, you can view details about the available sections for each course, such as number of seats available, times, location, instructor, etc. by clicking and expanding the “View other sections” drop-down under the course of interest. Scroll ahead with the arrows to see more sections, to ensure you have viewed them all.

For more help selecting courses for your first two semesters, please visit the Registration Guide for New Students [4].

For help with Student Planning and waitlisting, you can visit the Student Planning website [5] for video tutorials, FAQs and support information.

If you are not registered in all of your required courses by Monday, July 20th, please send an email to your Academic Advisor or oac.pco@uoguelph.ca [6] from your new @uoguelph.ca email address.
