In the Co-op Program, your education formally integrates your academic study with work experience in co-operating employer organizations. Our employers also know this mandate and take our Co-op Program and our Co-op students seriously. It is the integration of academics with work experience that differentiates our co-op program from general work experience. You demonstrate this academics-work integration explicitly by taking COOP*1100 (DTM students take COOP*1120), and during your Co-op Work Terms, writing Learning Goals, completing a Work Report, and submitting your Employer’s Work Performance Evaluation.

You can apply to the Co-op Program directly from high school. You will be required to complete a set amount of Co-op Work Terms as part of this program. You may be eligible to apply to the Co-op Program as an 'in course admission' in your first year, the deadline to apply will be either the last class day of first semester or second semester depending on which program you are in. As a Co-op student, it is important to maintain regular and frequent connections with both your Co-op Coordinator (in the Co-operative and Career Services Office) and Co-op Advisor. These are your partners in your progress through the Co-op Program, although it is ultimately your responsibility to know and understand the Co-op Program Policy Agreement [6].

You will note that your Schedule of Studies includes both Work Terms and Academic Terms. You may not alter this sequence without explicit approval from both your Program Counsellor and the Co-op Program Office. Careful planning and consultation with the Program Counsellor is essential when planning courses, since some program requirements are not offered each semester.
